Position:  Transport Clerk / Closing date 09/12/2016

BridgeStep Ltd is a growing, family run business based in Appley Bridge, Wigan.  Specialising in Transport Management, Logistics & Supply Chain, our services include:

An opportunity has arisen to employ a transport clerk for our busy traffic office.  You should be proactive, enthusiastic, have a good standard of numeracy and literacy and be professional with our drivers and customers. Experience in a busy traffic office is preferred but training can be given for an outstanding candidate.

The role:

  • Manage the daily driver plan utilising your problem solving skills to alter the plan and drivers allocated when necessary
  • Match driver availability and skills with customer booking requests - daily interaction with customers and drivers through phone and email.
  • Collate data via timesheets from drivers and enter on to Excel spreadsheet. Good standard of numeracy required (be able to calculate a driver’s shift time from start and finish times for example)
  • Respond to customer emails promptly - good standard of literacy required
  • Ensure drivers are aware of their work placement and start times
  • Accurately record data, audit driver and customer files and other administration duties as required to support the transport operation


Skills and experience required:

  • Experience of working in a Logistics environment would be advantageous
  • A knowledge of transport legislation/working time directive/ drivers’ hours would be beneficial
  • Have a professional, confident and courteous telephone manner with a commitment to customer care
  • Possess excellent analytical skills
  • Attention to detail, minimising opportunity for error, is imperative
  • Be dependable and have excellent time keeping and attendance
  • Good standard of numeracy and literacy required
  • Be proficient in Word and Excel.
